How Patient Transfer From the Sarpi Border to Trabzon Hospitals Works

How the Sarpi to Trabzon patient transfer works: who can use it, how to request it, where you are met, companions, wheelchair needs and delays.

MPGCARE’s Sarpi–Trabzon patient transfer takes you from the Sarpi border to your hospital in Trabzon. It is free for patients whose treatment is organised through MPGCARE. It runs on weekdays between 10:00 and 18:00 (Turkish time) and is planned in advance with our coordination team. One companion can travel with you, but a fee applies for the companion’s transfer.

The road from the Sarpi border to Trabzon is roughly 185–190 km and usually takes about three hours. Many patients from Georgia ask us how this part of the journey works before they decide to travel. This guide covers who can use the transfer, how to request it and what happens if your plans change.

Who Can Use The Patient Transfer

The free Sarpi–Trabzon patient transfer is for patients whose treatment is organised through MPGCARE. This confirmed condition comes from MPGCARE’s written information, October 2026.

In practice, this means:

  • You have an appointment arranged by MPGCARE at one of our partner hospitals in Trabzon.
  • The transfer is free for you as the patient.
  • One companion can travel with you. A fee applies for the companion’s transfer.

If you are travelling for a hospital visit that MPGCARE did not arrange, the free transfer does not apply. You can still contact us to ask about your options.

If you have not booked yet, our guide on how to book an appointment at Medical Park and Liv Hospital explains the first steps.

How And When To Request It

You request the transfer through our coordination team, usually at the same time as your appointment is planned.

To plan your transfer, send our coordinators:

  1. Your appointment date at the hospital
  2. The number of people travelling, including your companion
  3. Your estimated arrival time at the Sarpi border
  4. Any special needs, such as limited mobility or a wheelchair

Our team then confirms the meeting point and pick-up time with you.

Transfer hours. The transfer runs on weekdays between 10:00 and 18:00, Turkish time. If you plan to arrive outside these hours or at the weekend, contact our team to discuss your options.

Time difference. Georgia is one hour ahead of Turkey. Georgia uses UTC+4 and Turkey uses UTC+3. If your coordinator gives you a pick-up time of 11:00, that is 12:00 in Batumi.

The easiest way to plan is to request your transfer together with your appointment, in one conversation with our Batumi team.

Where You Are Met At The Sarpi Border

You cross the Sarpi border yourself. Our transfer team meets you on the Turkish side once you have passed passport and customs control. Your coordinator confirms the exact meeting point and time before you travel.

Patient transfer in Turkey

Before you cross, make sure you have:

  • Your passport or ID card. Georgian citizens can enter Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days with either document. This comes from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accessed 13 October 2026.
  • Your appointment confirmation and your coordinator’s phone number.
  • Prescriptions for any medicines you carry. Turkish customs accepts a prescription or doctor’s report for medicines brought for personal treatment.

The Sarpi border crossing has been open 24 hours a day since 1990, according to the Artvin Governorship. Waiting times can vary, so tell your coordinator if you expect to be delayed at the border.

Companions, Luggage And Wheelchair Needs

Companions. One companion can travel with each patient on the Sarpi–Trabzon transfer. The transfer is free for the patient, but a fee applies for the companion. Your companion also needs a valid passport or ID card to enter Turkey.

Wheelchair and limited mobility. If you use a wheelchair, have limited mobility or need special transport, tell our team in advance. We will assess what arrangement is possible for your journey.

Ambulance transfer. The standard patient transfer is not an ambulance service. MPGCARE has not confirmed ambulance transfers on the Batumi–Trabzon route. If your condition requires medical transport, discuss it with your coordinator before planning your trip.

The more our team knows about your needs before you travel, the smoother your journey will be.

Delays And Cancellations

If you are delayed or need to cancel, tell our coordination team as early as possible. This comes from MPGCARE’s written information, October 2026.

Common situations include:

  • A long queue at the border. Message or call your coordinator with your expected arrival time.
  • A change in your appointment date. Your transfer is rearranged together with your new appointment.
  • Illness or an emergency before travel. Cancel through your coordinator, and they will help you plan a new date.

Save your coordinator’s number before you leave home. It is the fastest way to reach us if anything changes on the day.
